About LapelLoom

Who we are, how we review, and why 102 formalwear reviews are scored the same way.

LapelLoom started in a tailor's fitting room, not a boardroom. In 2019, our founder, Marcus Bell, was a groomsman asked to source matching suits for a wedding party of eight guys with eight different budgets, body types, and opinions about lapels. What should have taken an afternoon turned into three weeks of returns, re-tailoring, and spreadsheet comparisons between brands that all claimed to be "the best men's suit on the internet." That frustration became the seed of this site: a place where men could get honest, specific, try-it-on answers before they spent their money.

Who We Are

LapelLoom is run by a small team of menswear enthusiasts, former retail buyers, and one semi-retired tailor who still can't stop pinning hems at family gatherings. Marcus leads editorial and testing, drawing on a decade spent working alongside custom clothiers in Chicago and Hong Kong. He's joined by Priya Shah, who handles fit analysis and fabric research after years in apparel sourcing, and Dante Ruiz, our resident photographer and detail-shot obsessive who makes sure you can actually see the stitching before you buy. None of us are paid spokespeople for any suit brand, and none of us ever will be.

How We Review

Every suit, blazer, tuxedo, or accessory featured on LapelLoom goes through the same process before it earns a spot on the site:

  • We purchase the item at full retail price, the same way you would, so there's no favoritism from a brand sending us a polished press sample.
  • We try it on across at least three different body types on our team or with trusted volunteers, since "true to size" means very different things depending on your shoulders and height.
  • We wear it for real occasions — weddings, interviews, long office days — not just a five-minute photo session, so we can report on comfort, breathability, and how the fabric holds up after hours of movement.
  • We inspect construction details most reviews skip: canvassing (fused vs. half-canvas vs. full-canvas), buttonhole stitching, lining quality, and seam finishing.
  • We check the brand's return policy, alteration support, and customer service responsiveness, because a great suit with a terrible returns process isn't actually a great buy.
  • We revisit older reviews periodically to confirm the product and company are still delivering the same quality, updating or removing recommendations when standards slip.

What Makes LapelLoom Trustworthy

We don't accept payment in exchange for favorable reviews, and when we do use affiliate links, we clearly label them — those links never influence which products we recommend or how we rate them. If a $900 suit has sloppy interior stitching, we say so, and if a $250 option from a lesser-known brand outperforms a luxury label, we say that too. Our ratings are built around fit consistency, fabric performance, construction quality, and value for the price, not brand prestige or advertising relationships.

We also believe context matters. A suit that's perfect for a black-tie gala might be the wrong pick for a daytime office job, so our reviews are organized around real occasions and body types, not just generic star ratings. Our goal is simple: when you finish reading a LapelLoom review, you should feel like you just got advice from a friend who happens to know a lot about tailoring — not a sales pitch.

Thank you for trusting us with a decision that matters. Whether you're suiting up for your own wedding, a big interview, or just upgrading your everyday work wardrobe, we're glad to help you get it right the first time.
